Being in love is truly one of the best things in the world. It’s the reason we all want to be in a relationship. If we dread anything, it’s that it may end and find that we are to blame. Making a relationship last takes a lot of work and commitment from both partners. The following are a few tenents that every relationship should have.

Enjoy the courting You will never experience the first moments again in your relationship, so make the most of it. Indulge in each other and treasure those moments.

Honesty Truth should be a tenent in your relationship. After years of being together keeping up with even the small lies becomes hard. Pretending also becomes a chore, so it’s best to be honest with yourself and your partner. Be honest about how you feel, what you think of your partner and what you expect out of the relationship. Honesty is very difficult but critical.

Trust Trusting someone is the hardest thing to do, but it is important to completely trust your partner. Without trust the relationship can easily degenerate into toxic arguments and fights.

Communicate Talk about the small things and the big things. Make your partner the first person you call for good or bad news. Also, an important part of communicating that people tend to forget is listening. Make sure that you create an environment in which your partner is at ease to share.

Prioritize it After a while most couples become comfortable and no longer put effort into the relationship. Do not allow other aspects of your life to overshadow your relationship. Always make time for your partner and your relationship. If you are busy with work or other commitments than schedule time with your partner if you must.

Intimacy Have words, expressions and touches reserved especially for you and your partner. Intimacy is a way of showing your partner that they are special and loved by you. Intimacy is also about sharing thoughts, dreams, aspirations and sensations that will stay between you and your partner.

Have separate lives It is odd to say that but it helps. A little bit of separations gives each of you the opportunity to be individuals and express yourself exclusive of your partner. If you miss your partner while you are separated even better, it makes your moments with them even more special. You will also have stories you can tell your partner

Each relationship is different, and what works for one relationship may not work on the next. Although different, at the core all relationships need the same things to make them work, so be sure that you have these basic tenents if you want to make your relationship last.
